Hotel Casa San Rafael, is beautiful, quaint, and charming place! Quite unique! The rooms are lovely and comfortable. The location is superb -- close to most things and safe to walk around. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and willing to help out, as needed. The owner, Maria Eugenia and her daughters are lovely, and always try to make you feel at home! They speak English, which can be challenging to find in a foreign county -- and a great advantage when needed. A nice breakfast is included, as well as parking. You can also find complimentary coffee and tea around the clock. I will definitely go back to Casa San Rafael, during my next trip to Cuenca!!
A 5 star hotel service and decor with a 3 star rating, What a bargain. Courteous and attentive owners - all family- delicious breakfasts.
I would say nothing. the glitches we encountered were resolved and were only due to the hotel newly opened, Staff is still trying to figure out some things that are part of running a hotel. Tour operators were not cooperating with them. I have already spoken highly of the hotel and some travelers are already on their way there!
Excellent location despite being in the middle of town. Pretty and very well maintained hotel. Very friendly atmosphere with staff that goes out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Lovely breakfast and Tea and Coffee available at all times. Could not have made a better choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa San Rafael and wouldn't hesitate to return there for the attention and hospitality of the entire staff. We thank all the staff again who make this little hotel the gem that it is!
Charged me $58 to do $8.00 of laundry.
From the decor to the incredible friendliness of all of the staff, our family had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Casa San Rafael. Always helpful and warm, they made us feel like family. The cleanliness of the rooms was impeccable and the breakfast delicious. They had excellent suggestions re: restaurants and for my children, the Wi-Fi was throughout the hotel, which was a big hit. The hotel offered a luxury ambiance for very reasonable price and all in the historical center of Cuenca. I feel that from Rafael and Maria Eugenia and his daughters to Marcela, Paul and all of the people at the Hotel Casa San Rafael--that we now have new friends to visit in the future. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Cuenca, Ecuador
A beautifully restored old house near the center of Cuenca, close to 9 de Octubre market, shopping and excellent restaurants. The staff, especially Carolina, were very friendly, helpful with transportation, dining and other local information. The rooms, if a little small, were fairly priced. You cannot go wrong by choosing Casa San Rafael.
Ran out of hot water one morning but it quickly recovered. A bit more variety in the repetitious breakfast menu would be nice.
The stasff´s attendance was very very good! They helped me to find my tours ...so I didn´tneed to spend hours on end on the internet to select and book them. Apart from that I was very delighted by the little coffee / tea buffet.....at any time did they serve something to drink. Thanks for that!
FABULOUS!!We stayed here with my adult children & had 2 rooms which were both lovely.Beautiful inside courtyard where a made to order breakfeast was served. The owner went beyond expectations to be helpful and welcoming.Delightful& helpful staff.Great location.Shalom!
The entire " family " at the Casa was outstanding. We have all been duped by pictures we see on the inter net depicting something that is not really what you are going to be getting. In the case of the Casa San Rafael, it was the opposit. There is no way to depict with photo's how truly beautiful this old world building is. We were treated as family by the whole staff, which is largely made up of the lovely daughters and wife of the owner. They went way above and beyond our expectations as hosts. They arranged taxi rides, negotiated prices, and truly took care of us. Imagine our surprise when we returned from a day trip to find the bed covered in rose petals, a beautiful arngement of fresh flowers and chocolates. The owner had heard it was my wifes birthday! How cool is this family? I can't begin to say. Also, the non family staff, gave my wife a little going away present, and there were actually some tears shed! If you have any doubts about the Casa San Rafael, please dismiss them from your mind. This is Old World Charm at it's best!!!!! We will be returning there this Fall, and look forward to re uniting with our" New Family "in Ecuador.
There is absolutly nothing to dislike about the Casa. You will need to adjust to the sound of traffic on the cobblestone streets. If that is a bother, I'd suggest you ask for a more interior room. We actually found the sounds of the city soothing.
This is without a doubt the most amazing hotel we have ever stayed in; it is run by an entire family, with almost everyone in the family (the father being Rafael) participating and having an interest in its success; it is like staying in someone's personal home, and being treated like the most valued guest they have ever received! They will do whatever it takes to ensure that you leave their care feeling that it was one of the best experiences of your travel life.
Outstanding hospitality. We were caught in a rain and hail storm without our raincoats and umbrellas and walked back to the hotel. When we arrived, soaking wet, the the owner made hot tea and empanadas for us. When we moved into our apartment, the owners and staff generously invited us to stop by if we needed anything, any recommendations or help. This is a family owned and run hotel, all are extremely friendly to all the guests and make an every effort to provide extra service. We happily recommend this hotel to our friends should they travel to Cuenca.
Central location, 5-star service and very friendly staff, beautiful renovated colonial house, good breakfast and coffee, almost like staying with a family
The single room was a bit small and noisy as it faced the street (it was still worth the price), and laundry service, though convenient, was exorbitantly priced even by us standards,
Hotel Casa San Rafael is in a great location and has comfortable furnishings
The hotel has very thin walls and doors, and you can hear everything. You cant sleep past 7 am, when breakfast begins. Also, the tours booked through the hotel did not seem legitimate. I also prefer hotels in Ecuador that provide bottled water.
This is a family run hotel and every member of the staff had the goal of making our stay pleasant. The rooms and public areas were spotless. Breakfasts were very good with fresh ingredients each morning. The hotel is located in walking distance from everything in the old city.
The only negative was street noise. We changed rooms to an interior room, gave up the harm of a balcony on the street but gained quiet. Talked to many others at different hotels, and street noise seems to be common in these hotels on cobblestone streets.
Service was awesome. They make you feel at home away from home. Very clean and comfortable. The mango juice is out of this world. Walking distance to Plazas and Cathedrals. I'll go back there in a blink.
